Solar Panel Inspection: What Technicians Actually Check
Wondering what a professional solar inspection involves? Here's a transparent breakdown of every step our certified technicians perform on your array.
The Short Answer
A thorough solar inspection goes far beyond a visual check. Our NABCEP-certified technicians use a combination of electrical testing, thermal imaging, and data analysis to assess the health of every component in your system.
Visual Inspection
- Panel glass for microcracks, delamination, discolouration, or hot spots
- Frame integrity and mounting hardware
- Junction boxes and conduit runs
- MC4 connectors for corrosion, water ingress, or improper mating
Electrical Testing
- IV Curve Tracing — compares each string's actual current-voltage curve against its expected performance to pinpoint underperforming panels
- Insulation Resistance (Megger) Test — measures cable insulation integrity to detect degradation before it causes a ground fault
- Open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current checks per string
Inverter & Monitoring Review
- Error log analysis for historic faults
- Production data review — actual vs. predicted output
- Firmware version check
What You Receive
After the inspection you receive a written report with:
- A health score for each string and the overall array
- Annotated photos of any defects found
- Prioritised recommendations with estimated costs
- Comparison of current vs. expected annual output
